Verda, knitting wonderwoman!

This is Grammy with Madeline and our dear friend, Verda. She has been like family to me as long as I can remember. Years ago, she started knitting Christmas stockings for us. As Wes & I married and had kids, she kept knitting....and knitting, and knitting, and knitting.... 2 parents, two children, two spouses, and 5 grandkids later, Verda has knitted 20 Christmas stockings for us! She thought it was important that my parents also have stockings for everyone at their house, so she has knit two for all of us (minus grammy and papa) over the years. We love our Christmas stockings, and we love Verda for all her love and thoughtfulness towards us!
Read Aloud Stories Online
There was awhile in the middle of our sickness when I just couldn't read to the kids. I found a great site online where you can watch video of celebrities reading stories aloud, along with visuals of the illustrations. Madeline has especially enjoyed them. Check it out to see what you think! Go to http://www.storylineonline.net/

Chocolate Cake

One of Kurt's favorites is chocolate cake. I've never found a really great one out of the box, so I took a chance and made one from scratch last night. Maddie was disappointed that she had to go to bed while I was making it, and it was the first thing she talked about upon waking up. I knew I would be hearing about it all day if I didn't let Maddie have a taste, so after the kids finished breakfast, it was cake time! After all, it does contain eggs, grains & dairy, not to mention all those antioxidants from the chocolate!
BTW: this is Beatty's Chocolate Cake from the Barefoot Contessa. It turned out delicious and looks (almost) like the picture :-)
