While on vacation one afternoon, we decided to take a break from the pool. We hiked up a (sort of) stroller friendly trail that ended at a small waterfall. I'm not sure I would do that again with small children as you can see on the sign above. We also saw some bears on this hike, which is reason #2 I would not do that again with small children.

Ultimate Date Night: Dinner and a Gondola Ride

Kurt and I had a date night during vacation! We had an excellent meal at a restaurant that I can't remember the name of. They had a salad bar (of which I was skeptical), but it turned out to be a little 'gourmet' and very well done as far as salad bars go. The decor and ambience were also quite interesting. Two thumbs up for our favorite restaurant in the Smokies!
After dinner we took a stroll through Gatlinburg, enjoying the sights and people-watching. We even heard a bonafide bluegrass band playing "Rocky Top Tennessee". Very authentic. I wonder if they ever get tired of that request?
After that we partook of the standard tourist attraction and rode up a gondola to see the mountains from the top!

Aug. 08 Vacation, Kiehns and Heaths
(BB, Ellen, Dave, Maddie, Kurt, Jack, Jayna)
Back in August we had the privilege of renting a house in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee with our dear friends, Dave & Ellen. What a great time we had! We ate well, swam almost everyday in one of the neighborhood pools, played games, laughed, relaxed, and just enjoyed great fellowship.

Kentucky State Fair
I (Jayna) am sort of a geek when it comes to a good state fair. What can I say? I like the animals, and I want Maddie to know that milk, eggs, and vegetables don't magically appear at the store. Well, I was determined to get the kids to the fair before our big vacation in August, so my window of time was limited. But I also wanted to spend time with my new friend, Megan and her kids, so I enlisted her to come along. We had a great time. Thanks, Megan, for the memories!
Chickens, chickens, everywhere!

So, when we finally found the place to enter at the fairgrounds, we first entered this building completely filled with every chicken, rooster and goose in God's creation. You can imagine the smell. Upon entering the doorway, it was a bit overwhelming for the senses, and I said, "I'm so glad I'm not pregnant!" To which Megan replied with a grin, "I am..." However, Megan was a trooper, and if she was overcome with nausea, she didn't show it! What a woman.
