What? No Chicken Nuggets?
In the first week of Feb., we found ourselves to be weather refugees for the first time due to some gnarly winter weather! The Bateman's graciously let us stay with them. But after five days, which included the stomach flu for Maddie, Jack and Jayna, we decided to head up to Lima and stay until our electricity came on in Louisville. We arrived on Sunday evening at 6:30 pm, and received word from our neighbors in Louisville at 9:30 that our electricity was back on! Needless to say, Jayna was NOT ready to come back. It worked out quite well, actually. Kurt stayed a few nights in Lima, and came back to take care of the house, and fulfill his ministerial duties while Jayna stayed the rest of the week with the kids.
Many thanks again to Kurt's family for taking such good care of us! Andy many thanks to the Bateman's for their hospitality! You were truly a godsend.
So, what do you do in Lima in the dead of winter? You go to Kewpee, of course!
Greasy Goodness=Kewpee
Kewpee has been serving up the best greasy burgers and fries in Lima, OH since 1928. It predates McDonalds by 30 years! Rated the nation's sixth best hamburger according to US News And World Report! As Kurt lovingly recalls, the classic jingle goes like this:
"Kewpee East, Kewpee West, Kewpee downtown, Kewpee hamburger, pickle on top, makes your heart go flippity flop".

January 2009: Go TCS!!

High Five to the players!
Still on fire after all these years!
After Christmas, we headed up to Lima, OH to spend the rest of the Holidays with Kurt's family. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed some Highschool Basketball at Kurt's alma mater where his nieces and nephews attend. Grandpa Heath is on staff, as well. Back in the day Kurt was quite the B-Ball star, and relived a few of those memories on the court at half-time. And though Maddie doesn't know much about basketball, she just loved the cheerleaders and overall excitement! She even wore her cheer uniform to get into the spirit of things. You can always count on Maddie for enthusiasm.

We Have a Baby on the Way!
Many of you have already heard about our announcement in December. But for the Blog record, we are expecting our third baby, due Aug. 6! We are 19 weeks along now, and will have an ultrasound scheduled for next week. Hopefully we'll find out whether it's a boy or girl. We praise God for this blessing, and are very excited. We also think God has a sense of humor as the baby's due date is also Maddie's birthday (and her due date, as well).
We'll start thinking seriously about names when we know what the gender is, but Maddie has named the baby several times. Her suggestions include: Mimi, and Jonas Partrit Heath. We aren't sure where her inspiration comes from.

A HUGE Surprise from my sweet husband!
I (Jayna) was given a big surpise back in mid-October from Kurt. Unbeknownst to me, he arranged a trip to visit some of my dearest friends in Denver, CO. Mindy (in the pic above) was my roommate back at Northwest College, and Robyn (in pics below) attended Northwest for awhile. Of course, we couldn't have done it without the help of Kurt's family in Ohio. They took the kids for a whole week! We are so grateful for their help.
So, I enjoyed 5 full days of sweet time and fellowship with Mindy and Robyn, getting to know their children, catching up and bonding in new ways as wives and mothers. I missed my kids and Kurt, but I'm a smart girl and knew to take advantage of this opportunity to rest and retreat. It was well worth it! And a HUGE thank you to Mindy and Robyn for their generosity and hospitality to me throughout that week. I look forward to the chance to serve you in the same way!
Happy Birthday, Kurt!
As we continue our flashback to October 2008, we can't leave out Kurt's 33rd Birthday! I was on a roll with cakes this year, and couldn't resist trying a basketball for Kurt. It was actually easy and a lot of fun to do!
Jack had just taken the cake out of the oven...

Way back in September: Jackson Turns Two!!!!
It's time to catch up again, and we would be remiss if we didn't post something about Jackson's 2nd birthday, way back in September. Since he seems to be a baller in the making, he enjoyed a soccer ball cake along with baseball and basketball cupcakes!!!
Jackson is a blessing to our family! He keeps us chuckling and is growing into more of 'his own man' everyday. He can go from pretending to be a scary dinosaur to giving sweet snuggles in a flash. Since September he has broadened his interests to include trains, plains, automobiles, and any kind of animal. He loves all creatures great and small!
He can (just about) count to ten, identify shapes, and his colors are coming!
He is able to participate in our family worship time in the evenings, and if you ask him, "Why did God create you and all things?", he will heartily answer, "Fo His Dory!!!" (interpretation: For His Glory). We pray that God would take this head knowledge he's gaining and plant it deep in his heart, giving Jackson spiritual life!
