Can't Visit Grammy & Papa Without Some Carousel Action

Maddie unknowingly chose a horse that stayed stationary during her ride.  But it cheered her up to know that his name was "The General".  That meant he was in charge of all the other horses on the carousel.

And while I'm not promoting angry fits, I had to show Jackson's dismay at leaving the carousel.  He's a pretty sanguine guy, but he does have his moments....

Retro Tonka Toys

The story behind these sweet Tonka rides from the '70s?  They belong to Jayna's brother, Wes.  However, Jayna's Barbies had plenty of good times in them, too, back in the day.  Just to clarify:  Wes did not play with Barbie dolls.  And now?  Jackson was in his element with these heavy, mostly metal lugs of toys.  They just don't make them like they used to.

What to do on a rainy day? Make Goo of course!

Slow Shutter Speed to Blame

No matter how hard I try, it has been impossible to get cute, candid shots of Maddie, especially enjoying something like a  fudge popsicle.  She does not usually look like she's on drugs.  I'm blaming slow shutter speed on this one.  Yet another case for a camera upgrade!

May 2009: Picking Up Where We Left Off

So, besides our most recent post wishing you all a happy Independence Day, we were plugging along in our efforts to document the life, happenings and funny sayings of our family.  The last pics posted of Kurt with the kids on the carousel were taken shortly before he left for a two week 'business' trip to China.  We were glad he was able to go, and it was a very good trip for Kurt, but we certainly missed him more than words can say.  I (Jayna) was 29 and 30 weeks pregnant, trying to keep up with two energetic little ones (whose wills and wishes did not always match up to mine).  But in God's goodness and grace, He sustained us all, and our reunion was sweet!

Kurt returned June 2, and used that week to recover and sermonize before we all departed for two weeks in Oregon with Jayna's family for vacation.  It turned out to be a great trip WITHOUT ANY flight delays or snags! (unlike this trip here).  It's one of the rare times we've come off vacation feeling truly rested and rejuvenated.  There are pics to post, but here is just one to get us started:

'What!  No Maddie and Jack?!'  you say?  Trust me, they will get their fair share of the limelight in days to come.

We'll try to cover vacation pics over the next week because BABY HEATH#3 will be arriving soon.  She is due Aug. 6, but who knows, maybe she'll decide to make an early appearance?  We are getting anxious to meet this new little blessing to our family.  Many of you know the name we've chosen, but we'll do the official big reveal when she arrives and her name is (figuratively) written in stone on the birth certificate.  But, let's just say Grandma Mitchell will be smiling down on us all.

And with that, pray for us if you think of it.  Kurt will be in Denver 3 nights this week to do his first wedding.  As much as I would like to have this baby today, it would be a shame if Kurt missed being here for her birth.  And, as you can imagine, it's getting even more difficult to keep up with our two energetic little ones (whose wills and wishes don't always match up to mine) at 38 weeks pregnant and counting.

Back in May: Zoo Day

Below are pics from a trip to the zoo on a family day back in mid-May 2009.  It never ceases to amaze me how much the kids enjoy going to the zoo, no matter how many times they've been there.  We're thankful to live so close!

Ok, not the most manly picture of my guys, but a pretty sweet one you must admit.
